I have yet to see the film Some of what you say was visible in the trailer of this movie. Your comparison to Riefenstahl was intriquing and the reference to Michelangelo's David was genius. I'll probably wait for the release to DVD. I'm not sure it is worth the effort except to critique. I'll be back for more. The comments sound like ones I could have made myself. Great minds do think alike, and for a reason. Thanks for the review.

Wow! I loved reading this. I actually can enjoy a story with just about any political message, as long as the opposition (which most stories require in some form) is presented with enough respect to allow some real understanding of it, and why it exists. The best stories, for me, give the opposition enough respect to leave some doubt or ambiguity in the message - they leave you with something to chew on. When the opposition is made of straw, the story quickly turns to propaganda, and raises contempt in me. I'd rather just not see it.

I haven’t seen it, and I don’t know if I can stomach it.

I actually can enjoy a story with just about any political message, as long as the opposition (which most stories require in some form) is presented with enough respect to allow some real understanding of it, and why it exists. And as far as message goes, this film is so watered down and mixed up on it's message that I can hardly think of it as a particularly good message of anything. Go get MASH (the film), Dr. Strangelove, Paths of Glory or, as I referenced, Lawrence of Arabia if you want to see how a political message can be put forth in film. I can't imagine that something as silly as the message put forth in this film can be a giant red light indicating anything.

As I said, it’s not the film’s particular political statement that I object to, it’s that the film has a political statement. And no, I'm not talking about flipping the polarity of our duopoly yet again.

Just saw the movie myself, and side where you will on the political statement, this is a giant blinking red light that the US is nearing a governmental change.
