Ah, the good old court system rushes to protect their government ilk. Today, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals announced that Janet Reno cannot be held responsible for any excessive force claims being made against her and the government for the taking of Elian Gonzalez in 2000. The court stated that the only way she would be culpable was if she knew that sending in large numbers of men with submachine guns would violate the rights of the Gonzalez family. The irony is palpable. How could you not know?

Hillary Clinton has just announced on the Senate floor that Senator Moynihan has passed away. While I was politically opposed to Moynihan on every issue, he certainly knew how politics and idealism could meet, even if ever so infrequently. Every time we lose a man in politics who would, even once, stand on principle, it is not a good day.

Of course the irony that Hillary Clinton, a woman of fluid principles and non-existent morals, would announce his passing is almost too much. But hopefully, he is in a good place, where he can miss her announcement and rest in peace.

With the Oscar’s finally out of the way, the really important awards have come out: The Golden Raspberry Awards which have been awarding the worst achievements in film for 23 years. This year Madonna and hubby Guy Richie almost sweep the awards with their remake of Swept Away, but worst actor was awarded, sadly, to Roberto Benigni for his miscalculated performance in Pinocchio.

I?m really getting sick of this behavior. For one of the first times in history, the stock market has been growing dramatically on the news that war has broken out. Of course, what they are really happy about is that, at long last the ordeal with Iraq will finally be over. However, reporting on the stock market gives no explanations of why the market is growing and yet the moment the market drops a few points the news feeds are filled with articles such as this one, declaring that the war is destroying the economy. The fact is the market is climbing! Come on guys; let?s just face the nasty truth: War might just make us rich!
